Why Are Zirconia Crowns So Cheap in Turkey? Where the Saving Is Real, and Where Corners Get Cut
Medically reviewed byDt. Beyza İlistir, DDSQuick answer
A zirconia crown typically costs £150–£350 in Turkey and £700–£1,200 or more in the UK. Most of that gap comes from lower running costs, high-volume digital labs and quotes paid in pounds or euros. A smaller part can come from cut corners: unbranded zirconia, skipped try-ins, unpolished adjustments and crowns on teeth that did not need them.
Key facts
- Indicative price: £150–£350 per zirconia crown in Turkey; £700–£1,200 or more in the UK.
- Treatment usually fits one trip of 5–7 days: preparation, laboratory work, fitting and review.
- A crown preparation removes roughly 63–72% of a front tooth's visible structure, so crowning healthy teeth is overtreatment at any price.
- The Turkish Dental Association has estimated that 150,000–250,000 foreign patients come to Turkey for dental treatment each year.
- A quote should name the zirconia grade (3Y, 4Y or 5Y), monolithic or layered, and the blank manufacturer.
Why does the same crown cost so much less in Turkey?
Four things account for most of the difference, and none of them is about the quality of the crown itself.
- Running costs. Staff wages, rent and many local services cost much less than in the UK.
- Currency. International patients are usually quoted in pounds, euros or dollars, while many costs are paid in Turkish lira.
- Digital, high-volume laboratories. A zirconia crown is scanned, designed on screen and milled. Busy clinics and labs mill many crowns a day, which spreads the cost of scanners, mills and furnaces.
- Case size. International patients often treat several teeth in one trip, so the clinic's fixed costs per patient are spread over more units.
Turkey is also one of the world's busiest destinations for dental travel. The Turkish Dental Association has estimated 150,000–250,000 foreign dental patients a year.[1] Scale on that level supports specialist laboratories and keeps material suppliers competitive.
Where does a low price mean corners have been cut?
Some savings are legitimate. Others come out of the parts of the crown you cannot see. The table separates the two.
| Cost component | A legitimate saving | A warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Zirconia blank | Established brand bought at volume | No brand or grade named on the quote |
| Design and milling | In-house CAD/CAM lab | No try-in for multiple crowns before glazing |
| Finishing | Efficient lab workflow | Crowns adjusted in the mouth and left unpolished |
| Chair time | Experienced, organised team | All preparation done in one rushed session for 20 teeth |
| Temporary crowns | Milled in the clinic's own lab | No temporaries between preparation and fitting |
| Diagnosis | Remote review of photos and X-rays before travel | Treatment plan decided from photos alone |
| Tooth count | Crowns only on damaged teeth | 16–20 crowns quoted on teeth that were healthy |
The last row matters most. A low per-crown price can still produce a high bill, and a lot of lost tooth, if the plan crowns teeth that only needed whitening, bonding or veneers. Our guide to zirconia crowns lists the clinical reasons a crown is justified.
Does the zirconia grade change the price?
Yes, a little, and it changes the crown a lot. Strong, more opaque 3Y zirconia suits back teeth and grinders. More translucent 5Y looks more natural at the front but is weaker. Multilayer blanks combine the two in one crown. Part of a price difference between two quotes can reflect a different grade or a premium blank brand.
The problem is not the grade; it is not knowing which one you are getting. Our guide to zirconia grades explains which suits which tooth.
What should a zirconia crown quote state?
- Which teeth will be crowned, by tooth number, and why each needs a crown.
- The zirconia grade and whether each crown is monolithic or layered.
- The blank manufacturer.
- Whether temporary crowns and a try-in are included.
- Conditional prices for root canal treatment, posts or core build-ups, in case a tooth needs them.
- Whether a night guard is included if you grind.
- What happens if a crown chips, cracks or comes off after you fly home.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are zirconia crowns in Turkey lower quality?
Not by default. The material, scanners and milling machines are the same ones used in the UK. Quality depends on the zirconia brand and grade, the fit, the finishing and whether the crowns were needed at all, so ask for each in writing.
How much is a zirconia crown in Turkey?
Typically £150–£350 per crown. The same crown usually costs £700–£1,200 or more in the UK. Treatment generally takes one trip of 5–7 days.
Why do some clinics quote 20 crowns?
Usually because they are quoting a full cosmetic smile, not repairing damaged teeth. Crowns on healthy teeth remove about two-thirds of each tooth's visible structure. Ask the clinic to justify each crown, tooth by tooth.
Is a cheaper crown worth it if I need several?
Only if the plan is right. A good price per crown on teeth that genuinely need crowns is a real saving. The same price on teeth that could have been bonded or whitened is not.
